India's Growth as a Startup Hub: Insights from Union Minister Thakur

Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur highlighted India’s prominent position in the global startup ecosystem, noting that the country ranks third with 90,000 startups and hosts 107 unicorn companies valued at $30 billion. Additionally, he emphasized India’s role as the leading exporter of vaccines, mobile phones, and defense equipment.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the 36th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival (Antarnaad) organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at Jammu University, Minister Thakur commended the significant participation of over 1,000 individuals representing 18 universities nationwide in the week-long festival.

He underscored the pivotal role of India’s youth in fostering the startup ecosystem, attributing the country’s success to their contributions.

Minister Thakur emphasized the importance of sustainable investment for fostering green economy and job creation. He outlined India’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for green hydrogen production, aiming to produce five million metric tons, equivalent to 10% of the world’s production, within the next five years. This endeavor is expected to attract Rs 8 lakh crore in investment and generate numerous green jobs for the country’s youth.
